New Resident Checklist

Thank you for considering Southgate to be your home. We realize that it can sometimes be challenging to re-locate to a new community. We hope that the information provided here can assist you in your move.
Tax and Water Account
Please phone the Township of Southgate Municipal Office to verify your move on your tax account. If you will be residing in the village of Dundalk, please be sure to verify your water billing account as well.
Most residents residing within the village of Dundalk will be required to contact the Post Office on 111 Main Street East in Dundalk to register. Please phone the Post Office on Main Street in Dundalk to set this up. For more information for the Mount Forest, Conn, Durham, Holstein, and Ayton areas, please the local the local Canada Post Office.
The Township of Southgate is home to many recreational facilities, parks, sports groups, clubs and organizations. There is something for everyone in Southgate, including free public skating all winter long at the Dundalk Arena. For more information see the recreation page on the Township’s website or contact the Recreation Dept. at 519-923-3431.
Within the boundaries of the Township of Southgate there are 3 public schools in the Bluewater District School Board:
  • Dundalk & Proton Community School (JK – Grade 2) in Dundalk
  • Highpoint Community School  (Grade 3 – 8) in Dundalk
  • Egremont Community School (JK – Grade 8) in Holstein
Your location will determine whether your child(ren) will attend school with Southgate or in one of the neighbouring communities. Remember to change your address on your health card and your driver’s licence. This can be done online at
Library Services
The Southgate Ruth Hargrave Library is located in Dundalk and offers a variety of programs and activities along with the large selection of reading materials. Check out or call 519-923-3248 for more information.
Waste Resources & Diversion Management
Each home was assigned 3 carts (1 Blue Recycling, 1 Grey Waste, and 1 Green Organic). Please ensure these are at your home you have purchased. Southgate is divided into 4 zones for the collection of waste, recycling, and compost. A collection schedule calendar is sent out yearly to all residents within Southgate. A copy of the current schedule as well as information on what is allowed in each cart can be found on the Township’s website. Grey and Blue Carts alternate weekly pick up, however the Green Cart can be placed for pick-up every week. Dog Licence
All dogs must be licenced in the Township of Southgate. Tags are renewed and sent out annually. To obtain your first tag, please visit the Township of Southgate Municipal Office or call 519-923-2110 ext. 222.
Fire Services
The Township of Southgate is serviced by 3 fire departments: Dundalk, West Grey and Wellington North. The Dundalk Volunteer Fire Department is home to Southgate’s Fire Chief who oversees all fire-related services within the Township.
